The prevalence of diagnosed CKD is high among individuals older than 65 years. Since
GFR declines with normal aging, this phenomenon is due in part to the use of a single,
absolute threshold of an eGFR< 60 ml/min per 1.73 m 2 persisting for at least 3 months to
define CKD regardless of age or the concomitant presence of other signs of kidney injury,
